Hello, and welcome to CopingWithMultipleChemicalSensitivity.com.
My name is Richard, and I first heard of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity when I was doing some research for a website I was planning to build related to indoor air quality (more on this if it comes to fruition).
I was interested to learn more about MCS and was disappointed to come across articles writing off sick people and making accusations about their motives for saying they have the illness.
From my research, it is clear there are many individuals in various parts of the world who seem to react, sometimes with very severe symptoms, when exposed to certain chemical substances at levels that the majority of us would be able to tolerate.
If there are no consistent characteristics and no uniform causes, it doesn’t mean that these poor souls aren’t suffering. It could mean that individuals react differently to the unique cocktail of chemicals that they are exposed to.
It certainly means that there are many people who struggle with ill-health which they closely associate with exposure to odors emitted from paint, cleaning materials, new carpets, car exhausts and from many more sources.
These people are desperate for relief from their symptoms which can include chronic headaches, tiredness, digestive disturbances, joint pain and many other manifestations.
Yet often they are simply frustrated because many doctors will still dismiss their symptoms as being psychological or psychosomatic problems.
I hope that this website will be a useful resource for those trying to live with ill health which has been attributed to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. We have enlisted the help of other contributors who give their own unique perspectives and ideas about this condition.
We hope that Copingwithmultiplechemicalsensitivity.com will help to make you feel less isolated and that it will motivate you to do more research for yourself and to seek professional support.
